Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mother’s who make us Dad’s look good everyday!!! Have a GREAT day!!!!

We need each other!!

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about being a Dad.  From the ups to the downs.  From the highs to the lows.  Being a Dad is a lot like being in a war (mind you I have never been in a war, I am just using an analogy).  Everyday we fight to provide for our families at work.  Everyday we fight to maintain the romance in our marriage.  Everyday we fight to train our children to be productive members of our society.  Everyday we fight!!

While fighting for your family is NEVER wrong!!  Doing it alone is!!  We NEED each other!!  Men need men!!  We need friends we can talk with!!  We need friends we can de-stress with!!  We need friends to pray with!!!  WE NEED EACH OTHER!!!!

Being a man sometimes means calling for help!!  I know that there have been times being a Dad that I have needed a friend and felt alone behind enemy lines, and if I have felt this way I am sure others have felt the same way!!  We are in this together!!  Just like war buddies who end up being friends for life, we are in this battle for our families together and because this is the case we will begin to build relationships with people that we may never have spoken to before.  In times of war people are brought together to fight for a cause.  Today we are fighting for our families and in this fight we are brought together as men to help each other fight.  We need “war buddies” who will remind us that we are fighting to be good husbands and fathers!!  We need “war buddies” that will remind us that our current difficulties are not something new and we are not the first to endure them!!  We need “war buddies” to remind us that if we will stand strong and not give up we will win for our families!!!

With that being said, I am planning on opening a new ning site that will allow men to come together and share their struggles, victories, and needs with other men who will share advice, pray for, and get together to encourage one another as husbands and fathers.  I’m not sure of all the details for it right now but I will be working on it over the next week or two.  Together we can win the war for our families and come out on the other side with less scars and maybe a few more “war buddies.”  Until next time.

Much love,

Shawn

Don’t Give Up!!

This week has been an emotional roller coaster for me as a Dad. This past Saturday (May 1, 2010) my wife and I brought our second son into the world. Graham Taylor was born at 9:14 p.m. and to be honest I am still trying to wrap my head around it!! Being that we already have a 15 month old, adding another little boy to the mix has been something I have been looking forward to since we found out that we were having another baby.

However, because of the economy my wife and I lost our jobs in January and have been trying to get back on our feet ever since. When adding another mouth to feed to the family, losing your job is not the kind of thing that you really want to happen. So, my thoughts have been consumed with my new growing family and how to provide for them. To be honest, there have been a lot of tears as I am working 3 jobs to make sure that my wife and kids are taken care of during this time.

As a Dad, I understand what other Dad’s are feeling in this time of uncertainty. However, I know that there are 2 little boys and a beautiful women that need me to be strong. My encouragement to my fellow Dads…….DON’T GIVE UP!!! Dark times never last forever!! Every night has a morning. Until next time.

Much love,
Shawn

Welcome, Graham Taylor Wilson

Championship Fathering

Being a Father in today’s culture is not easy.  However, Carey Casey and the National Center for Fathering has made being a Father just a little easier with the book, Championship Fathering.  I recently got to meet and hear Rev. Casey at the Louisiana Governor’s Prayer Breakfast and I must say that not only does this man have a passion for serving Father’s, he has a passion for raising up the next generation of Father’s.

I am just a few pages into this great book and I must say that it has already rocked my world.  If you are looking for a good field guide for being a Father, this is it!!  I highly recommend getting this book and applying the principles it teaches to you role as a Father.  You won’t be sorry.  Until next time.

Much love,

Shawn
